The night sky can be a brilliant and breathtaking sight. The Moon can sometimes light up the night, but at the dark of the Moon, the night becomes more wonderful, with the Milky Way stretching across the heavens and myriads of stars twinkling brightly in the darkness. Join us to take in a view of some of the stars and planets found in our night sky. We will have telescopes set up for viewing and, with assistance from members of the Roanoke Valley Astronomical Society, you will get a chance to search for and pinpoint various objects in the night sky. You can also learn how to use binoculars to get a better view of our moon, and possibly Jupiter and Venus. Those who wish may bring their own binoculars or telescopes, and if necessary, get assistance from members of the Astronomical Society in how to best use them. Don't forget to bring lawn chairs or a blanket.
Pre-registration required. For more details or to pre-register come by the Visitor Center or call 540-297-6066.
If you want to learn more about the variety of objects in the night sky, come to "An Introduction to Amateur Astronomy" program, held one hour before this program. Both programs are free, but regular parking fees apply.
